　　“大師，有人贊我是天才，將來必有一番作為；也有人罵我是笨蛋，一輩子不會有多大出息。依您看呢？”

　　“你是如何看待自己的？”禪師反問。

　　青年搖搖頭，一臉茫然。

　　“譬如同樣一斤米，用不同眼光去看，它的價值也就迥然不同。在炊婦眼中，它不過做兩三碗大米飯而已；在農民看來，它最多值1元錢罷了；在賣粽子人的眼裏，包紮成粽子後，它可賣出3元錢；在制餅者看來，它能被加工成餅乾，賣5元錢；在味精廠家眼中，它可提煉出味精，賣8元錢；在制酒商看來，它能釀成酒，勾兌後，賣40元錢。不過，米還是那斤米。”

　　大師頓了頓，接著說：“同樣一個人，有人將你抬得很高，有人把你貶得很低，其實，你就是你。你究竟有多大出息，取決於你到底怎樣看待自己。”

　　青年豁然開朗。
