Meaningful Quotes

One main teaching in buddhism is im-permanent.Nothing is permanent. The below are some famous quotes about changes.

Change your thoughts, change your life!"

"Rather than wishing for change,
you first must be prepared to change."

Catherine Pulsifer

"Everyone can think of the one thing that would make life better for them.
But people are not so quick to answer the second question:
'What are you doing to make that change come true'."

Catherine Pulsifer

"Everyone thinks of changing the world,
but no one thinks of changing himself."

Leo Tolstoy

"Change is as inexorable as time,
yet nothing meets with more resistance."

Benjamin Disraeli

"If you don't like something, change it.
If you can't change it, change your attitude.
Don't complain."

Maya Angelou

"The world hates change,
yet it is the only thing that has brought progress."

Charles F. Kettering

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away

Group Swimming

Hello Rushi Members,

First, thank you Sumin who allowed me to contribute something to the blog. My name is Chi Kin Tam and you can call me Chi Kin / Chi. I must mention that I never written a blog in my life, so please forgive me if there are silly spelling and grammatical errors. :)

As you can see the title above "Swimming" , I'm here to find out are there any members interested in swimming? Actually, I have posted questions through the CBOX since (23/3) wednesday to determine any Rushi members who are interested in swimming. I received some positive responses until today. There are currently five peoples (e.g: Kinsern, Zoe, Lay Sim, Hui Ren and Piggy ^o^) who already expressed their interest in swimming. Good on ya' guys and girls. :) .

Since the responses are good, then we can start some real planning. Here are the proposed planning steps:
  1. Lets start with how many members are interested. Then step 2.
  2. It is important to check whether the interested members are keen on doing the swimming every week or every fortnight. Then Step 3.
  3. Obviously, It would be good for those who can't swim or swim well to get involve as well. There's no shame if you can't swim and is never too late to learn swimming. It will be a mixture of those can and can't swim. Members who already know how to swim should teach those who want to learn swimming. Let me figure out the way of getting some swim board to help the learner.
  4. Time and location. Thursday 7.15p.m or Wednesday 7.15p.m starts at the adelaide aquatic centre. Swim time will be approximate 45mins-1hr or longer if you prefer. There are spas, sauna and steam facilities available at the aquatic centre. If any members have any suggestion regarding alternative time, please do not hesitate to comment.
  5. Swim Objectives: This depends on personal preference. The 50m swim pool is normally divided into 2 parts as in 2x25m. The proposed aim is to complete 500m or 20laps or 1000m or 40laps for those hardcore. Take your time, this is not a race or competition but to aim that you actually complete the swim laps.
  6. Price: Student price is $5.80/entry and adult price is $6.80 / entry. There are 30 multipass entry which can last a year can be purchased at $130.50 for students and $153.00 for adults. Mmm, price could be an issue for the members, but at the end of the day, the benefits are yours. For more understanding regarding swimming benefits, please go to http://swimming.about.com/od/swimworkouts/a/swim_benefit.htm

If you have any comments regarding the proposed planning steps, please do not hesitate to comment. Any good suggestions are always welcome. :)

My suggestion is swimming can be really fun and enjoyable if you are really into it. Please do not hesitate to comment regarding this post and lets see how the progress goes and we have a discussion after the FDC.

"Be Active and Get Involved" :)

Cheers

Something to Share =)

This is actually posted by Wee Ping at Rushi Youth Group's Facebook. I found it quite interesting and would like to post it up, it is actually quite a long one, so I decided to shorten it.. The full post is available on Facebook =)

WHY NOT TRY DANCING? adapted from Betty King

Too many times we sit when we should be dancing.
It is easy to watch from the stands, cheering for a winning team,
when we could be one of the players =)

Fear, lack of motivation and anxiousness suffocates us
Putting out the fire, stifling our willingness to embrace all of life that is available to us.

How many times have you watched others do what you long to do?
How many times have you desired to venture out whether other people have traveled?
How many times have you wish to see more, do more, and become more than you are?

There is always risk.
There are always the jitters and nervous stress that precedes anything unknown
An eagle does not fly, reaching heights of grandeur, if he does not leave the nest~
  • To reach heights of grandeur, one MUST STEP FORWARD!
Why not try dancing?
Maybe you've never dance before and at first you'll miss some steps - that's OKAY!
You're working on forward motion, not perfection!
Great strides are not made without a few stumbles , a few missteps.

Try dancing to the music, you can make a difference!
Play your own special tune
Dance your own special dance!

When your day on the earth has ended, let it be said, "You made a Difference!"
You lived life and "You danced your own special dance!"

Dance practice

As usual we had 3 hours of dance practice today. It was all good, everyone had worked hard..in 3 hours time I was required to teach 3 different dances..Damn tiring.( physically and mentally). I have forgotten the new dance steps choreographed. My bad...Brain cells died in great amount due to lack of sleep. Blame the pub crawl!!!

Anyway, it was all smooth. Played LadyGAGA song to loosen up a bit before we moved on to the seductive dance.
Love Bernice's eyes, Huey Yeng's hip movement, En Ni's facial expression...Sexy.....
Kinsern took a good number of the videoSSS. I Want to upload the videos here, but to do it, I will first need to post up on YouTube, which the rest will kill me next week..

ENough of BLA for this week's dance practice..Tired and sleepy..zzzzZZZZ

orientation picnic~

small note: priates or ninjas, which is better?

wohoo~ the 1st activity report in rushi blogspot! we have move to the technology era with the rest of the world! isn't it great! haha.

last saturday, 13/3/10 march, was the 2nd orientation picnic organised by me (and few other committee members as well). It was held at the botanic gardens along north terrace, and it began at 9.20 in the morning with the arrival of activities coordinators to prepare the activities for the morning. as other committee members, members and friends arrive, the morning kicked off with a welcoming speech from our dear president, HY. and also the introduction of all committee members. with all introduction done, its time for the 1st activity~

the 1st activity's purpose is to blind, dumb and paralysed split everyone into groups and get everyone to work together. groups are named after sunflower, rose, orchid and lily. all group members performed beyond the expectation of all activity coordinators and they manage to group up very fast, although there is a poor blinded person being 'adopted' into other groups as group of their own had forgotten about them. anyway, all's well at the end and all members ended up with their own group.

while waiting for the 2nd activity, all members got to introduce themselves in their groups and the some promotion from our sponsors (rushi youth group). after lots of activities and events being explained, and also the promotion of the blogspot, 'colors of vesak', friday dharma classes, moon cake festival and all, the guy talking in front(me) received a phone call which tells him that the 2nd activity ready to go!!! isn't it exciting??

the 2nd activity covers about 50% of the botanic gardens where it involves all group members to look for playing cards which are scattered all over the designated area. the key point is, only the group leader can pick the cards up and other group members can only point and show where the cards are. after 20 minutes of card collecting, all members are being scored on types of cards being collected and also have to performed a few task designated by us the activity coordinators =) scores are given base on how successful the task are completed. i was pretty surprised that we have manage to collect back 144 cards out of 168.

the 2nd activity ended with a few comical acts from a few talented people, with some laughs and some brain twisting questions, and the winner was announce!! while other committee members were preparing lunch, our venerable master gave a short speech which has everyone there enlighten (dharma point +1 =P). everyone then had fried rice, sour & spicy vegetable salad (i made the name up) and sandwiches for lunch. all these are being prepared by committee members. i personally like the egg sandwiches the most!

the whole event ended at approximately 1 p.m. i like to personally thank everyone for your presence on the saturday morning. i had lots of fun talking to you guys and hope you guys had fun as much as i do =) i hope we had not frightened anyone with our crazy out going personality, and i (and all other committee members) will love to see everyone on the coming friday dharma classes! like i said, we are a youth group organised by youths for youths =P (and yes, sumin, you are still a youth!). special thanks to other committee members that help to make this event a success! =)

cheers
